Practical Words from Emerson

"Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense."
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
Make a commitment to forget what your lover, mom, or boss did yesterday. Forget that this is the 37th day in a row you have sat in your car on the highway crawling to work... or whatever! Wake up and be thankful for anything. Go from there and see what happens. When you find yourself dwelling on a memory, recall something joyous instead.

Absolutely! Kari, spot on!
I recently blogged about this: “Britain's oldest man celebrates 110th birthday”
I loved the quote he gave, which affirms what you have written here Kari.He said:
“I have just lived from day to day,” he said. “I just have a good day and never think about what tomorrow will bring.” ~ Henry Allingham
And this man is currently 110 years of age.So it just shows that a positive frame of mind and not letting things bother you is the way to a long and happy life.
Kari said: “Wake up and be thankful for anything.”
Again, I totally agree.I have made my home page: MyGratitudeJournal
So it's the first thing I see when I connect to the internet. And when you have gratitude on the mind, it's remarkably easy to start filling the journal with many things, big and small.I also like the privacy aspect of it.Some of the things one appreciates are personal in nature and may not be easy to express to others.Or some of the things may seem over the top and fake, with an ulterior motive if so strongly felt and expressed to others -
- For example, something like: “How utterly grateful I am to have people like Kari as a friend, to share thoughts with and enjoy their company. To be acknowledged and to acknowledge each others deep questions.Even sometimes without words, it's just a knowing and a sense of connection. How grateful I am to be able to connect with such people and to share visions of ways of being, perhaps never thought before. And quite simply just to be regarded as a friend! That's the beez n eez! So thankyou Kari! :)”
Ooops, there you see, you've made me blurt it out in public now.
Oh well! :D
Flex, you are wonderful. You blurted out both because I made you and because you can't contain your energy of gratitude!! ;-) (Do I wink too much?!)
I just went to mygratitudejournal and it is a perfect idea! It will be a nice complement to my 30 day trial of not talking about things I don't like and not complaining, and if I find that happening, the gratitude can help turn the energy around. (I started this experiment yesterday.)
:-)
Great quote Chica, thanks so much!
I heard myself complaining tonight to my neighbour about the day I had [people blowing smoke up my nose 'cause I'm “the Boss”]. The conversation didn't leave either of us feeling any good. In fact I felt stupid. Like i'd torn my part of the fabric we are all weaving for a better world. Can't belly ache about something, it's just information / feedback on how I am being in the world. I definitely need to enjoy life more. Thanks for the access. Love, J
